48 hours to create a video game

Game Jam 2019

Creative and computational thinking, problem-solving, programming, designing and teamwork are some of the skills that will come into play during #Gjam2019.

On November 27th and 28th, Citilab-Cornellà will host more than 200 high school students from 30 schools in the metropolitan area of Barcelona. The students will be challenged to develop a video game related to an environmental and welfare topic.

It will be two days of intense work when the young game designers must show their creative, design and programming skills to create a fully functional video game. During the process, they will be accompanied by a mentor that will guide the teams to improve the complexity of the design.

The activity will conclude with a presentation from each group, they will explain the process they followed to complete the task. Finally, the awards ceremony will be held, when a jury of professionals from the field will decide which team managed to create the best video game.

Complementary to the current school curriculum and combining creativity with technology, St Peter’s School, ENTI-UB. Citilab i Singularity Foundation have the common goal of promoting computational thinking and scientific-technical vocations through playful and attractive activities for students. The Game Jam uses the methodology of the international network Jam Today, which promotes the collaborative creation of games as an educational tool.

This initiative has the support of l’Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona and l’Ajuntament de Cornellà.
